HIST 375W - The History of Sexuality in the United States 3 hours


The course introduces students to the history of sexuality in U.S. history from European colonization through the present day.  Topics will include sexuality, dating and marriage, LGBTQ experiences and rights, abortion and contraception, sex education, regulations of sexual practices, and attitudes toward sex. The course will cover several major eras in U.S. history, including colonization and early America, the American Revolution, the Civil War and Reconstruction eras, The Gilded Age and Progressive Era, and modern America. The course will also examine the social and cultural impact of attitudes and policies regarding sex, sexual orientation, and contraception.
