NURS 211L - Mental Health Nursing Lab 1 hour


This course involves supervised application for assessment of mental health patients. Application of interpersonal, behavioral, psychosocial and communication concepts that provide the basis for effective and therapeutic mental health nursing. Critical thinking skills and evidence-based practice concepts are applied and analyzed. Therapeutic communication skills within the nurse-patient-family relationship will be highlighted in the care of patients with psychosocial, substance dependence and other mental health deviations. Alternative therapies, treatments, health promotion and wellness, and stress management are discussed and incorporated, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse, including collaboration with other disciplines and organizations as resources and support mechanisms. 

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Associate or Bachelor Level Nursing program; NURS 212 .
Corequisite(s): NURS 211 .
