The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires a certain number of hours in the chosen content area. Students seeking Middle Level Education Certification may choose from the following content areas:

- Speech/Theatre
Content Area Requirements:
Language Arts Minimum (21 sem. hrs)
Literature Elective (3 sem. hrs)
Electives (9 sem. hrs)
Choose three courses from the following:

Science Minimum (22 sem. hrs)
Lab Electives (4 sem. hrs)
Choose two courses from the following:
