Students seeking certification in Secondary Education may choose from the following recommended degree areas:

Secondary Content Area Requirements
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requires a certain number of hours in the content area.
Students seeking Secondary Education Certification may choose from the following content areas:
Biology (Grades 9-12) Minimum (32 sem. hrs)
Business Education (Grades 9-12) Non-Vocational Minimum (30 sem. hrs)
Business Electives Recommended (0-6 sem. hrs)
Electives only needed if Business hours in above categories are below 30 hours required by DESE.
Chemistry (Grades 9-12) Minimum (32 sem. hrs)
English (Grades 9-12) Minimum (30 sem. hrs)

1 This course must include a résumé that will document one (1) year or two thousand (2000) hours of approved occupational experience or appropriate internship. The approval process is determined by the nature of employment in a business occupation. Copy of résumé needed for student file.
